We sought out The Drill Consulting Group to ensure that we were asking the right questions on our survey. Karen’s input provided clear guidance on how we could reduce the survey’s length, incentivize respondents to complete the survey, and ensure that our questions were clearly-written and accurate. Karen also advised us that doing a sampling would potentially provide a better return of responses. As a small business, we wanted information from our clients to ensure that we were meeting their needs, and the contractor survey was able to tap into that information. Through our work with Karen, we learned about key principles of survey design and how to encourage people to complete the survey. In addition, Karen clearly explained the rationale behind each edit to the survey, so that when we create another survey, we can apply these principles. Karen’s expertise was invaluable.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Drill and The Drill Consulting Group while we were developing research protocols, consent forms and survey instruments for a Cervical Cancer Prevention Project in Rural Senegal. I chose to partner with Dr. Drill due to her extensive experience in mixed methods research, education and evaluation. She provided invaluable feedback on our survey instruments and brought cultural competency front and center by ensuring we used local terminology and more basic language. Dr. Drill was able to look at the research instruments from both the participant and the research staff perspectives, ensuring that we could capture the data we want and have it ready for evaluation. Her diverse experience added tremendous value to our project.

Karen Drill is a frequent contributor in my graduate classes. She has presented on mixed-methods program evaluation and provided a personalized training on NVIVO qualitative software for my doctoral students. Dr. Drill understands both the theory and practical issues needed to address these topics and is skillful in engaging diverse audiences. She is a true expert in her field. Her presentations really helped my students grasp the rationale and strategies behind mixed-methods research and how NVIVO can be useful tool for qualitative research. Her ability to tailor the NVIVO training and engage high level graduate students was outstanding...even better than the proprietary trainings I've used in the past! I will also be utilizing her skills in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis to execute my next project. I have also referred Dr. Drill to my colleagues at the Brown School of Social Work because she has unique skills in designing and carrying out social research and is a great collaborator.
